Club AIR is large (max capacity 1300) but intimate, with several areas in a flexible layout. On the former IT location, AIR has been designed from the ground up and the club sports state of the art sound and lighting systems and novelties like electronic lockers and a fully automated bar system. Thursdays are electro, Friday is techno and techno-house, while Saturdays see live shows by local and international talent.
Lively spacious bar-theatre-club close to Central Station, with DJ's, live music and the occasional performance. Bitterzoet stages lots of upcoming new talent, and leans towards the jazzy and world sounds. The club has a relaxed atmosphere, low admission fees, and moderately prices drinks, so this is definitely worth a visit! 
Despite the fact that this is a pretty large club, Home indeed has a 'homey' feel to it. It is spread out on three levels, each with its own distinct atmosphere. You enter the club into the 'Living Room', with a fireplace, bookshelves and comfortable seating. First floor is the 'Bedroom' which is the lounge area, and downstairs in the basement is the main dance area, with live DJ's most of the nights.
Handboogstraat 11 (020-620 17 79).
The Escape theater is one of the larger clubs in town with a capacity of well over 2,000. Most nights the venue is rented out to party organizers; check the flyers section to see what's going on. Despite its size, expect to queue. The notoriously selective door policy seems to have relaxed a little. 
Slightly alternative club on the 'Westergasfabriek' grounds a bit out of City Center, with refreshingly open-minded programming. Flexbar consists of two interconnected spaces, so it is able to host two different events at the same time. Moderately priced drinks and snacks.
Hip club where ancient Hong-Kong mixes with modern design. Black is the dominant color here, with a large lounge area with black leather sofa's and a black bar, and the opium table is not missing of course. The dance floor is downstairs, with excellent lighting and sound system. Famous for its selective door policy; either you're on the guest list, or you join the endless queue hoping the door bitch will favor you.
Korsakoff combines a street level dance floor with a first floor bar. Alternative punk-rock and grunge sounds, and gathering place for Amsterdam's gothic scene. The bar has a balcony with a good view of the dance floor. Live music on Wednesdays. 
The Melkweg is mainly a live music venue, but during weekends it also hosts a variety of dance events. Some nights the venue is rented out; check the flyers section. In contrast to other clubs the Melkweg has a keen eye for 'world music' trends. Mixed and relatively young audience.
Like the Melkweg Paradiso is mainly known as a venue for live music, but during the weekend it sometimes hosts club nights with local and international DJ's and occasional live acts. Check the flyers section for more info. 
Amsterdams first true megaclub with a capacity of well over 5000, located out of city center in a industrial zone near Amstel station. The Zone breaks with Amsterdam club tradition in that it does not have a door policy, and doesn't allow tipping. This is happy house territory for a broad audience, with a spacious interior with organic shapes like oval bars and round walls, and a large dance floor. Balcony with comfortable sofa's and chairs. The second floor houses the Comfort Zone, a 'lounge' area. 
Rembrandtplein 17 (020-521 83 33).
This 'night-theatre' close to Leidseplein sports a busy program with music, DJ's, poetry and performance. Sugar Factory usually stages two shows per evening, the early show being a stage performance, and the late show home to several popular dance nights, like for example Wicked Jazz Sounds. Relaxed and easy-going atmosphere, moderate prices for drink.
Club-cum-restaurant Trouw houses in the former printing works of a major Dutch newspaper, and this shows - the club occupies all of 2000 m2 of pretty bare industrial space. Throw in a large and excellent soundsystem and there you have the Trouw no-frills club approach. Progressive electronic sounds are the main fare here. The restaurant serves up international streetfood, and is open until 2am on Saturday nights, which is pretty amazing by Amsterdam standards!
