Walking Amsterdam’s Red Light District (“de Wallen”)
Groups, either business or private can book a Red Light District tour at the Wallenwinkel/PIC. The one hour tour is given by experts and by explaining how things work in detail you get a special, ‘behind the curtains’ look. Next to the a tour we can also arrange a complete evening ‘experience’ in the Red Light District with a dinner, show and a real look behind the scenes!
The Red Light District is one of Amsterdam’s most unique neighbourhoods. Just like Amsterdam’s Jordaan neighbourhood “de Wallen”, as it is locally known, is a “must see” for all visitors. And you have probably never walked through “de Walle”” with a woman who worked for years behind one of the windows herself.... Mariska Majoor, founder of the Prostitution Information Centre (PIC), can tell you all about life in “de Wallen” like no one else can. As a 16 year old girl she started working in prostitution of her own choice. She not only talks about the history of the area but also about her own experiences. Mariska is very open about her thoughts and motives and she is always ready to answer your questions about prostitution or the area. In about 1 hour you will walk the whole of the neighbourhood and you will get an explanation about how it all works. It is a rare opportunity to talk with a former prostitute about the area and her profession so don’t be afraid to ask what you would like to know during the tour! How much and when? The tour – of small groups – begins from the Wallenwinkel/PIC at Enge Kerksteeg. The tour is for 1 hour and the cost per person is € 14,95 (the proceeds are used to help support the activities of the PIC). Tours can also be arranged for larger groups but we ask that you contact us at so that we can arrange a special appointment. The PIC will be closed on Thursday during december.

Important: During the tour we ask that you do not take any pictures of the window prostitutes. This can cause problems, including the security of your camera and above all it is disrespectful of the women working!
The Red Light District tour is also done by colleagues of Mariska. Some are former prostitutes while others have not worked in prostitution but are, for example, experts on the history of the area!
